I make representational paintings sourced from photos that I take. My work explores how celebration effects the quality of life.
I am interested in telling pleasing stories with paint, rooted in emotional response to color, people and place. Inspired by color, light and shadow in the work of American artists Edward Hopper and Daniel Heidkamp, I fell in love with painting the images of New York as they appear to me. I took a photo whenever something looked compelling on my commute to my studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, in visits to upstate New York, and when the lights and shadows convene in a powerful harmony. I love beauty, and the art I make is intended to contribute to the beauty visible nearly everywhere. Following my emotions, I also create as a way to conjure more of the things I want to see in my life – pleasure, harmony, abundance and spiritual connection. Celebration creates significance. In celebrating the way things appear and feel, I experience healing. I discover how important it is for me to appreciate and connect to the simple beauty around me. I merge my passions of art and healing. |
